Maury grew in Eastern Washington, in the wheat fields of the Palouse, between Pullman, Washington and Moscow, Idaho.
After receiving his Bachelor of Music from Washington State University (1985), he went on to play french horn professionally with the Boise Philharmonic before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area to attend Golden Gate Seminary.
At Golden Gate, Maury received his Master of Divinity (1990) and Ph.D. (1995). In 1992, Maury planted River Valley Christian Fellowship in Yuba City, California where he served as the Senior Pastor for over twenty years.
In 2000, Maury was invited to return to Golden Gate Seminary to teach Greek and New Testament. He has taught there every semester since that time. In 2013 he became the director of online education for Golden Gate.
Maury loves to backpack and write nature essays. He disappears alone for days at a time into the Sierras, to soak in the glory of God.
Maury and Julie were married in 1989. They are looking forward to celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. They are the proud parents of three children.
For fun, Maury enjoys backpacking, fishing, and landscaping. He keeps up his passion for music by playing french horn in a local woodwind quintet.
